Volunteers from different schools participated in "Sheen Watan" plantation campaign in Jamrud. Have a look at some of the pictures of the event.

It all started from the idea of planting few trees in our surroundings and soon became "Sheen Pekhawar" which was then extended to "Sheen Khyber Pukhtunkhwa". When we started contacting people to motivate them to take part in the plantation campaign, we were amazed by the positive response given by people. Soon we were in contact with great volunteers from different areas. FATA was one of the areas where residents have a keen interest in plantation. Volunteers of FATA showed great commitment and enthusiasm. Students of different schools and colleges participated actively in the campaign. Now by the grace of Al mighty Allah, we are in a position to extend and manage the program not only in KPK but also in FATA. So the program is renamed to "Sheen Watan".

REDA launched the plantation campaign "Sheen Khyber Pukhtunkhwa" on 28th February by planting saplings in different schools of Hayatabad. These selected schools included Govt. Girls High School, Govt. Girls Primary School and Jica School, Phase 1, Hayatabad. Each school was given 100 saplings. The campaign was started by the Principals by planting a tree in their schools. REDA in partnership with The Edifiers, CAUSE, IMSciences and Islamia College University is volunteering in the campaign with the support of Ministry for Environment, Ministry of Education and Forest Department, KPK.

Green Revolution 2012 - REDA's request for helping hands

REDA is looking for participants, donors, volunteers, advisers for their proposed project of GREEN REVOLUTION 2012.

Details of the proposal are;

Introduction

According to 1998 census, Peshawar is the highest populated district of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. It is also an industrial hub of the province. These industries and millions of vehicles used by the locals’ emit toxic gases that have a negative impact on the environment. A steep loss in the number of trees and plants is also noticed in Peshawar and its peripheries due to new roads. To attain the environmental equilibrium, a highly proactive plantation campaign is needed; in which communities/students/businessmen and locals are mobilized and encouraged to actively participate.

Objective:

1. To plant 100,000 saplings of different species in District Peshawar and FATA through plantation campaign “Green Revolution 2012”.

2. Awareness campaigns among locals regarding environmental issues; causes, effects and actions.

Situation Analysis

Peshawar has 92 union councils with an estimated population of 2,038,629 (1998 Census). According to KPK Bureau of Statistics 2009 report Distt. Peshawar has a total of 1328 Government Schools. See below Tables for different statistical details.

Big change on the cards, says Imran

Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Thursday claimed that a big change was on the cards in Pakistan as masses are looking towards his party to solve their problems.

Talking to politician and traders from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who joined the PTI here at the party Central Secretariat, Imran Khan said next few months were crucial, and a big change was about to take place on the national horizon.

He said through ballot box, a historic revolution would take place in Pakistan during the next general election, and he said people looked towards his party for saying goodbye to US slavery and bringing economic stability in the country.

“Future politics will be focused on two major points—how to get rid of the US subjugation and ensure economic stability,” the PTI chairman maintained while welcoming the delegates to his party.

Imran believed without the removal of incumbent rulers, who had bargained for a few dollars on the life and honour of Pakistanis, needed to be removed for which the PTI would hold countrywide demonstrations and also stage historic sit-ins in Lahore and Multan. The PTI chairman continued a final round would be played in Islamabad to send the rulers packing and pressure would also be mounted on fake rulers in Punjab.

Peshawar Model City to have 80,000 plots: Govt plans mega housing project

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has planned to establish a new township with the name of ‘Peshawar Model City’ on the outskirts of the capital city to provide better residential facilities to the citizens.

“The new township spread over 14,600 acres will have about 80,000 plots of different sizes, and as such this will be the largest township of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” officials in Peshawar Development Authority told this correspondent on Monday.

In this connection, Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour chaired a meeting, which was also attended by secretary local government and rural development Aurangzaib Khan, PDA director general Qazi Laiq Khan, DG local government Haji Abdul Jalil and other officials, according to a handout.

It said that the new township would be completed at a cost of Rs140 billion and the PDA had asked different line departments such as Pesco, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and PTCL to work out plans concerning the township.

The officials said that with the establishment of new township the southern area of Peshawar would also be developed as the PDA would spend over Rs10 billion on different link roads.

According to the initial plan, they said that in the first phase the township would be developed on 8,000 acre at a cost of Rs78 billion in five years and in the second five-year phase the township on 6,000 acre more would be constructed at a cost of Rs62 billion.

Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act on the selected land will be imposed within few days for acquiring land, they said and added that the selected land was barren and rocky. The officials, however, refused to disclose the location where the new township would be established because before imposition of Section 4 the land mafia could buy the land.

The officials said that the establishment of the model city would discourage illegal housing societies. “We will give the people a township having a proper master plan with all basic facilities and security,” they said.

During the meeting, Mr Bilour also directed the PDA officials to accelerate construction work on the Regi Model Town, a project initiated some 20 years back but couldn’t be completed due to dispute on the land, said the handout.
