PEMRA issues licence to ‘Geo Super’

Few of my friends are of the view that most of the news in my blog are depressing. Are they??? Well obviously, because now a days we are in a state of sufferings. How can we publicise the news of a flower exhibition over a suicide bomber killing many.

But anyway the good news for today is that PEMRA has issued licence to Geo Super to operate from Pakistan. Geo Super has been closed for over 60 days due to refusal of Govt and PEMRA to allow the channel to uplink from Pakistan.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Tariq Pervaiz and Justice Amir Hani Muslim heard the case.

I hope all the other cases, the big ones, are decided too. This took over 60 days to resolve, our problems are over 60 years old and I don't see any one who has the capacity and capability to resolve the problems and issues.

Osama had another house near Abbottabad, reveals wife

Slain al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden lived in a small village close to the Abbottabad highway for more than two years before moving into a larger compound in the Pakistani garrison town in 2005, according to the dreaded terrorist's Yemeni wife who is now in custody.

The woman told investigators that Laden lived with his family for nearly two-and-a-half years in the village of Chak Shah Mohammad, a little more than a mile southeast of the town of Haripur, on the main Abbottabad highway, the New York Times (NYT) reported quoting two unnamed Pakistani officials.

One of the officials pointed out that this meant that Laden had moved from the rugged terrains of tribal villages to the relatively urban settings sometime in 2003.

The presence of Pakistan's military academy in Abbottabad made several observers to suggest that it was impossible for the army or intelligence officials not to know that Laden was hiding in the vicinity.

"If he was there since 2005, that is too long a time for local police and intelligence not to know," Hassan Abbas, a former Pakistani official now teaching at Columbia University, told NYT.

The newspaper pointed out that the Obama administration had stopped short of formally accusing Pakistan of some form of complicity in Laden's concealment for over a decade.

The Times reported that the Obama administration has demanded the names of some of the top intelligence operatives in Pakistan to determine whether they had contact with Laden or his agents.

"At best, it was willful blindness on the part of the ISI," said Art Keller a former CIA official. "Willful blindness is a survival mechanism in Pakistan."

In particular, American officials have demanded information on what is known as the ISI's directorate, which has worked closely with militants since the days of the fight against the Soviet army in Afghanistan.

"It's hard to believe that (Pakistani army chief Ashfaq Parvez) Kayani and (ISI director general Ahmad Shuja) Pasha actually knew that bin Laden was there," a senior administration official said.

The official, however, said "there are degrees of knowing, and it wouldn't surprise me if we find out that someone close to Pasha knew."

Amir Khan retains WBA title

Pakistani born British Boxer Amir Khan ensured there were no more losses for him at the end of a costly week by stopping Paul McCloskey on a cut in the sixth round on Saturday night.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) champion made a fourth successful world title defence by technical unanimous decision after a cut above McCloskey's left eyebrow, caused by a clash of heads, prompted referee Luis Pabon to stop the fight in the sixth round in front of 18,000 supporters at the MEN Arena.

Khan began the week losing an estimated one million pounds after a TV dispute ended in UK broadcaster Sky TV refusing to screen his fight, but the Englishman stayed on course for bigger pay-days.

But it was an anti-climatic end to a fight that was just coming to the boil and McCloskey's corner were furious that the Northern Irishman was not allowed to continue.

It was the 25th win of Khan's career with just one defeat while McCloskey suffered the first blemish on his record, dropping to 22 wins and one defeat.

The 2004 Olympic silver medalist won by scores of 60-54 on all three judges' scorecards, after a clash of heads.

The Northern Irish challenger entered the ring unbeaten European champion and it seemed like he was the home fighter with over 6,000 traveling fans roaring him on.

McCloskey, 31, cleverly kept out of range for most of the opening round to avoid Khan's customary quick start.

Khan had sparred with Filipino Manny Pacquiao -- the world's best pound-for-pound boxer -- and claimed it was perfect preparation to face another southpaw in McCloskey.

And Khan began finding McCloskey more in the second as McCloskey failed to deal with the champion's hand-speed.

McCloskey had stopped five of his previous five opponents but Khan was a steep step up in class.

Yet the challenger did not look out of depth in a see-saw third round, landing a left flush on the jaw from close range.

Khan shook McCloskey with a right in the fourth and increased his attacking bursts in a lively fifth round.

McCloskey survived a furious assault from Khan in the sixth before a clash of heads opened up a gruesome two-inch cut stretching from the forehead to left eyebrow.

Referee Pabon called in the ringside doctor, who immediately called for the fight to be stopped, with the judges' scorecards of 60-54 deciding the outcome by technical unanimous decision.

The crowd booed as the scores of 60-54 from all three judges were read out and there were angry scenes in the ring.

British govt refuses to hand over Pervez Musharraf

British government has refused to hand over former president Pervez Musharraf to Pakistan who is wanted by joint investigation team in Benazir Bhutto assassination case.
Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) which is conducting trial in Benazir Bhutto assassination case has summoned Director FIA and head of joint investigation team Wajid Zia on next hearing of the case taking place on April 9.
FIA presented written repot of British home department to court, which was sent by Pakistan High Commission. As per this report no formal extradition treaty existed between Pakistan and UK, therefore, arrest warrants of Pervez Musharraf could not be executed.
Chief Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar told that the arrest warrants of Pervez Musharraf issued by the court were sent to British Home Department and Pakistan High Commission through foreign ministry. Pakistan High Commission had intimated about Pervez Musharraf address in London and arrest warrants were also sent on this address.
Talking to media men Chief Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar and Muhammad Azhar Chaudhry told claimant of this case police inspector Kashif Riaz was trying to flee from the country. Punjab Police has recommended for sending Kashif Riaz abroad. Upon it we have recommended for placing his name in ECL.
To a question they told Pervez Musharraf had major role in this case and his arrest would be ensured. Decision had been taken to seek help from Interpol, they said. It seemed as if some sympathizer of Pervez Musharraf was there in foreign office, they stated.
If Pervez Musharraf does not appear deliberately then the court had authority to declare him proclaimed offender and confiscate his property in Pakistan after initiating proceedings against him under section 87 of criminal procedure, he held.

Sex Education in primary school of UK... a concern for parents...

Children as young as five are being exposed to "shocking" sex education materials in primary schools, according to research. (ref: the telegraph)
A report published on Wednesday claims that schools across England are using books that cover subjects such as orgasms and foreplay.
The study, found a range of local councils recommended titles for use in primary sex education lessons that contained highly explicit references.
One book for children aged just five contains cartoon images of a couple having sex and another compares sex to skipping.
Another text for older pupils in primary schools and the first few years of secondary education features a card game in which pupils learn terms such as “axxl intercourse” and “oxxl sex”.
According to the research, parents were being kept in the dark about the content of resources used in sex education lessons.
The institute suggested a current Government review of the curriculum should give parents the legal right to veto the most "shocking sex education materials". Families already have the power to remove children from sex education altogether.
Sex education is currently not compulsory for pupils aged five to 11, although all primary schools must have a policy on the subject. In most cases, schools choose to teach it as part of non-statutory personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) classes.
The latest study, "Too Much, Too Young", investigated the content of sex education books recommended by local councils for teaching in primary schools in their area.
According to the study, one text – “How Did I Begin” – is recommended for children aged five onwards in areas such as Devon and Wiltshire and features a cartoon sketch of a mother and father having sex, with the line: “As they cuddled, your dad’s pxxxs moved slowly inside your mum’s vxxxxa and the sperms flowed out.”
Another book – “Where Did I Come From?” – is recommended for pupils aged seven upwards. It tells pupils slang words for breasts and the joys of tickling boys’ and girls’ private parts, adding: “Making love is like skipping. You can do it all day long.”
A “Sex and Relationships Education” computer programme produced by BBC Active is recommended for use in primary schools in areas such as East Sussex, Worcestershire, Cornwall and Sheffield. It features a computer-generated image of an erect pxxxs.
A book for boys – “What’s Happening to Me” – is recommended for pupils aged seven-plus in one area, and older children in other authorities. A section headed “The Messy Truth” instructs pupils about foreplay and masturbation, including the line: “Boys can make themselves ejaculate by rubbing their pxxxs up and down.”
An education pack employed by a series of councils asks older primary pupils to match a series of sex education terms and definitions. This includes words such as “axxl intercourse”, “bixxxual”, “oxxl sex”, “prostitute” and “orgasm”.
Another book – “Let’s Talk About Sex” – is recommended for pupils 10 and over in some areas. According to the research, it features a chapter on homosexuality, with the line: “As children are growing up, boys become curious about other boys and girls become curious about other girls. They may look and even touch each other’s bodies. This is a normal kind of exploring.”
The reason for this post is to warn the parents living in UK about this serious issue. They have to keep a close eye on what is taught to their kids. They must be aware that they have full right to veto any material that they consider inappropriate for their kids.

NEPRA allows 33 paisa per unit hike in tariff

Another shocking news for Pakistani nation, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), on Thursday under fuel adjustment, granted an approval to power distribution companies to raise the tariff by 33 paisa per unit. A NEPRA team headed by Chairman Khalid Saeed heard the petition filed by the power distribution companies for raising the tariff by 39 paisa per unit. But the NEPRA approved hike of 33 paisa per unit. The decision would be effective for all kind of consumers from the month of March. I am thinking shall i praise NEPRA for saving us 6 paisa or shall i blame them for snatching 33 paisa from the pockets of struggling Pakistanis. We are struggling to survive in the situations where our industries are shut because of gas and electric load shedding. Every faithful Pakistani is living a difficult life. I used the word faithful because corrupt Pakistanis are living luxurious lives and are making fools of innocent people for their own benefits.
I am writing this blog at this time of the night because the place where I live is cursed with the load shedding from 8pm till 10pm. All one can do at that time is sit, do nothing and wait for electricity. We all have heard our dear Minister of Water and Power, Raja Perveiz Ashraf, giving deadlines for NO MORE LOAD SHEDDING. But we all know that its a big bunch of lies. Are we moving in the backward direction, going back to the stone age??? May ALLAH help our nation and give us strength to bring a positive change. Ameen

6th Match, Group A: Kenya v Pakistan at Hambantota (Feb 23, 2011) - Pakistan won by 205 runs

Match Facts
February 23, Hambantota
Start time 14:30 local time (09:00 GMT)

Pakistan won their first match of World Cup 2011 against Kenya. Pakistan's opening batsmen couldn't give the expected start to their team. In 5th over, Mohammad Hafeez at 9, tried to put Otieno's ball in the gap but Waters went screaming to his left horizontally and took the catch after a brilliant effort. Umpteen replays confirmed it was a clean. Kamran Akmal replaced him. In the very next over Shehzad after playing 18 balls and scoring only 1 run, was shown way to the pavilion by Odoyo when he tried to go midwicket, ended up going in the air straight to mid off as he got the leading edge. Kenyan skipper took an easy catch.
Kamran Akmal and Younis Khan played brilliantly. Kamran scored 55 of 67 balls and gave Pakistan the start they needed. Younis Khan also added 50 runs to the score board.
Misbah got off the mark by a brilliant six, first of the match. Misbah scored 65 off 69 balls with the help of one four and two sixes, while Umar hit 71 off 52 balls, including eight fours and a six as they put up 118 runs for fifth wicket.
Shahid Afridi managed to score only 7 runs. Pakistan put a total of 317 runs. Kenyans conceded 46 extras with 37 wides.
Kenyan batsmen couldn't put pressure on Pakistani bowlers. Omer Akmal's brilliant fielding and throw sent Waters back to the pavilion. Umar Gul bowled to Ouma which when straight to Kamran Akmal, an easy catch. Afridi completely destroyed Kenyan batting line and grabbed 5 wickets in 8 overs. He bowled 3 maiden overs and gave away only 16 runs. Umar Gul and Hafeez took 2 and 1 wicket each. Shoaib Akhtar could not take any wicket but bowled decent overs. Obuya was the only Kenyan batsman who could score some runs. Afridi got rid of him after 47 runs.
Kenyan team was all out on 112. Pakistani bowlers gave away 11 extras.
Pakistan won by 205 runs. Umer Akmal was Man of the Match for his brilliant batting and great performance on the field.
In the end it was a comfortable win for Pakistan. But Pakistan really needs to work on opening batsmen. Pakistan's next match is against Sri Lanka on 10th March. I am hoping Pakistani squad will deliver same results again.
BEST OF LUCK PAKISTAN!!!

World Cup 2011 - Pakistan vs Kenya

Match Facts

February 23, Hambantota

Start time 14:30 local time (09:00 GMT)

So on February 23rd, Pakistani cricket team will be facing Kenya in their first match of World Cup 2011.
In Pakistani squad we have Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmad Shahzad, Kamran Akmal (wk), Younis Khan, Umar Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi (capt), Abdur Razzaq, Umar Gul, Wahab Riaz and Shoaib Akhtar.
Kenya will be fighting with Seren Waters, Alex Obanda, Collins Obuya, Rakep Patel, Steve Tikolo, Maurice Ouma (wk), Jimmy Kamande (capt), Thomas Odoyo, James Ngoche, Shem Ngoche, Nehemiah Odhiambo. This is the probable teams of both sides.
Now if we look at the last five completed games by both sides, Pakistan has a LWWWL scorecard and Kenya has the history of LWLWL.
As for both the teams, they will be facing each others for the 6th time. Pakistan has won all the matches till now and as a Pakistani I am hoping that our team will do the same again. Only once Kenya scored past 150 against Pakistan. Again I am hoping Pakistani bowlers will restrict Kenyan batsmen to an easy chase able score.
In Pakistani team we will be expecting good performance from Ahmad Shahzad, Misbah and would definitely want some spectacular batting from Afridi. On bowling side Shoaib Akhtar will have to perform good as there are concerns over his form. i expect Afridi to use Akhtar with clever strategy so he does not get exhausted and could be used for mid spells if needed.
Pakistani team needs to find wickets from start of the game, as we have seen in last two matches of this World Cup that even teams like Netherlands and Zimbabwe can give tough time to teams like England and Australia.
I hope Afridi does a good job and he puts an end to the concerns over his captaincy debate.
I wish best of luck to Pakistani team and am looking forward to it. I will discuss the results after the game.
GO FOR IT PAKISTAN!!!
