Earth Hour 2014 - Support & Participate

March, 29th: Today millions of people around the globe will participate in Earth Hour by switching off lights in offices, homes and other landmarks at 8:30 pm local times for an hour. 

Earth Hour is an initiative by WWF which started in 2007 at Sydney, Australia as a light-off event. This event aims to unite people around the globe to protect the planet. In first Earth Hour, more than 2.2 million individuals and 2,000 businesses turned off their lights for an hour. 

In Pakistan, Earth Hour is observed in all major cities. Members and volunteers of SheenWatan, an environmental and plantation advocacy campaign in Peshawar, have pledged to participate and support Earth Hour. 

In a statement, Mr. Khan, Manager CSR, TheExpertsCloud said; "We have to give back to environment and mother nature. This is our responsibility and we must not ignore it. If we want to see our children living in a healthy environment, we must act today. TheExpertsCloud will be observing Earth Hour today and would request your readers to participate too. We must not ignore the issue." TheExpertsCloud is a partner of SheenWatan and is currently leading the plantation campaign in KPK.

It all started from the idea of planting few trees in our surroundings and soon became "Sheen Pekhawar" which was then extended to "Sheen Khyber Pukhtunkhwa". When we started contacting people to motivate them to take part in the plantation campaign, we were amazed by the positive response given by people. Soon we were in contact with great volunteers from different areas. FATA was one of the areas where residents have a keen interest in plantation. Volunteers of FATA showed great commitment and enthusiasm. Students of different schools and colleges participated actively in the campaign. Now by the grace of Al mighty Allah, we are in a position to extend and manage the program not only in KPK but also in FATA. So the program is renamed to "Sheen Watan".

"Sheen Khyber Pukhtunkhwa" campaign in Khyber Agency

"Sheen Khyber Pukhtunkhwa" campaign started in Khyber Agency. In first phase, 400 trees were supplied to Govt. College of Management Sciences, Jamrud, Khyber agency. Students and faculty members of the college volunteered for the cause. Trees were planted by the faculty and students of the college. As part of the awareness campaign, Dr. Waseef Jamal of IMSciences university addressed the students highlighting the importance of plantation and its need in present conditions of the region. Mr. Noor ul Islam, CEO of CAUSE, explained the working plan for Sheen KPK.

Sheen Khyber Pukhtunkhwa - Plantation campaign 2012 in Peshawar by REDA

REDA launched the plantation campaign "Sheen Khyber Pukhtunkhwa" on 28th February by planting saplings in different schools of Hayatabad. These selected schools included Govt. Girls High School, Govt. Girls Primary School and Jica School, Phase 1, Hayatabad. Each school was given 100 saplings. The campaign was started by the Principals by planting a tree in their schools. REDA in partnership with The Edifiers, CAUSE, IMSciences and Islamia College University is volunteering in the campaign with the support of Ministry for Environment, Ministry of Education and Forest Department, KPK.

Sheen Pekhawar (Green Peshawar) - How to get FREE saplings and volunteer registration at REDA

REDA is actively promoting Sheen Pekhawar (Green Peshawar) and is seeking registration of volunteers for the campaign. We urge all the residents of Peshawar District to step forward and become an active member of Sheen Pekhawar. REDA has started registering volunteers for Sheen Pekhawar and is encouraging the youth of Peshawar to come step up and fulfill their responsibility.

Teams are organized in different areas for registration of volunteers and to run awareness campaigns. Sapling planters will be registered as well. These planters will get FREE SAPLINGS through REDA. There will be FREE training sessions regarding Plantation, its benefits and look after issues as well.

Green Revolution 2012 - REDA's request for helping hands

REDA is looking for participants, donors, volunteers, advisers for their proposed project of GREEN REVOLUTION 2012. 

Details of the proposal are;

Introduction
According to 1998 census, Peshawar is the highest populated district of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. It is also an industrial hub of the province. These industries and millions of vehicles used by the locals’ emit toxic gases that have a negative impact on the environment. A steep loss in the number of trees and plants is also noticed in Peshawar and its peripheries due to new roads. To attain the environmental equilibrium, a highly proactive plantation campaign is needed; in which communities/students/businessmen and locals are mobilized and encouraged to actively participate.
Objective:
1.       To plant 100,000 saplings of different species in District Peshawar and FATA through plantation campaign “Green Revolution 2012”.
2.       Awareness campaigns among locals regarding environmental issues; causes, effects and actions.
Situation Analysis
Peshawar has 92 union councils with an estimated population of 2,038,629 (1998 Census). According to KPK Bureau of Statistics 2009 report Distt. Peshawar has a total of 1328 Government Schools. See below Tables for different statistical details.
